What is Japans infatuation with baseball, anyway? And why is it that whenever anime needs a hilarious filler scene or episode or weapon, baseball is always the first resort? Take the (in)famous baseball episodes of Samurai Champloo or FLCL, or the comical baseball extra after the fifth One Piece movie, or Keiichis bat from Higurashi, or Lil Sluggers bat from Paranoia Agent. There are many more, too. Sigh...oh, well, Im not complaining, theyre all good. In this episode, Haruhis boredom is once again threatening the universe. Apparently shes not content with biting ears. So somehow, playing baseball relieves that boredom? Does that mean that if she goes to any boring meetings that she will have to go to as an adult, the world ends? Does one uninteresting school lesson spell doom for the universe? Wow. That sucks. Get over it, Haruhi. Life is not always interesting. Oh well, shes still cute. You cant stay mad at that! :3 Also, apparently everyone sucks at baseball except for Haruhi. This episode also leaves you with a moral: CHEATERS ALWAYS PROSPER! And its not the last time youll see it, either Despite the title, this is actually The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, episode 7, The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya. I dont own any rights to it or I would be charging you guys to view these. DISCLAIMER! The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was broadcast out of order on Japanese television (kinda like Hidamari Sketch! and Rental Magica), and it was quite unexpected and hilarious. When Kyoto Animation, a company known for their unorthodox anime practices, was confronted about the change, they gave the excuse that Haruhi came and switched the episodes around. Whether she really did or not remains a mystery (J), but the fact is that now we have to deal with this confusingness. So Ill try and explain. The DVD order is, for the most part, the chronological order of the episodes to where they make more sense, the only exception being that 0 is actually 11 chronologically. That being said, if you want to watch it in its broadcast order the way it was intended (and its worth it, trust me), wait for me to upload all the episodes, and then watch them in this order: 0, 1, 2, 7, 3, 9, 8, 10, 13, 4, 12, 11, 5, 6. You wont regret it, and will likely be much more satisfied with the final episode. Or you could, yknow, buy the Limited Edition DVDs like I did, which come with the broadcast order on separate discs, and not have to wait. Cool boxes and extras too, you can see my reviews of them on my RamenPoodle account. Your choice, but I always advocate supporting the R1 industry, its not doin so hot right now. I suggest you do the same, so we can continue to have great anime. Enjoy!
