Director: Bobby Torres..."BobGenius" youtube.com/bobgenius Diggin' in Director Bobby Torres's video archives - some old school of Trek-Life trek-life.com Trek Life was born in South Central Los Angeles. This multi-talented artist spent his early years on 110th and Hoover with his parents, older brother, and sister. He caught the rhyme bug around the time that KDAY was the top HipHop station in L.A., battling his brother and sister to UTFO'S Roxanne, Roxanne. They would change the lyrics to bag on each other. His siblings eventually taught him how to write his own raps, and he began building his skills listening to the likes of Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, NWA, and Above The Law. At the age of 11, Trek's family moved from the streets of L.A. to a town called West Covina. With his brother and sister away at college, he began to dig even deeper into HipHop music and was captivated by the Native Tongue family and the Juice Crew. He spent a lot of time dancing, rhyming, and learning how to deejay with his best friend Cam J and others in the neighborhood who shared the same love for HipHop. This continued until Cam J'S unfortunate murder at the age of 16. Vowing to live out Cam's legacy, Trek joined forces with his friend Silo and started Devious Network. They were produced by Motiv-8 (the Black Eyed Peas producer), performed shows, and sold tapes with fellow crew members in Callide for the next few years. Taking lessons from The Pharcyde, Common, and Freestyle Fellowship, Trek began to express more social awareness in his rhymes, while learning from and listening to other genres of music like punk-rock, jazz, Brazilian, and soul. Trek eventually went solo, and took some time to develop a cadence that fit him best. Avoiding the trends of the time that included nonsense coastal beefs, he instead caught on to all styles and became comfortable with his own technique while working with a rhyme family called the Air Titans. They released a crew album that received props in the 3rd issue of Rime magazine where Trek's verses were quoted. They also performed heavily in Los Angeles and Orange County area selling their own CD and vinyl and rocking well-known Los Angeles spots like Elements and the Nation of Islam's annual World Saviors Day. Consistently described as sounding hungry on the mic," Trek Life is well-known for his aggressive delivery and straightforward lyrics. He's even more well-known for his diversity of subject matter and styles. He approaches the mic professionally, always prepared for any situation on stage or in the studio. This has opened the door to a number of notable projects including featured appearances on Showtime/Interscope's television reality show "The Next Episode," several McDonald's commercials, 2 songs on Hidden Beach Recordings, "Hidden Hits, Vol. 1 compilation, and countless college and mainstream radio drops/interviews (including The Wake Up Show, Friday Night Flavas, and many more). Trek has graced stages from The Knitting Factory in Los Angeles, to the Manhattan Center in New York, opening for acts such as Gangstarr, Mystic, Slum Village, and many others with his DJ 360. Regardless of the location or size of the crowd, his connection with the audience is immediate and truly genuine. He raps for them and to them, never at them and by doing so, he has fun with them. His objective with every live show is to bring real enjoyment back to HipHop music, and to keep the energy of the show at a maximum level throughout. He's recently spent studio time with Evidence & Babu of Dilated Peoples, DJ Khalil (Self Scientific), J-Thrill, as well as DJ Rhettmatic (Beat Junkies), and has also aligned himself as part of a talented collective of up-and-coming artists dubbed Step Fam. Every project and collaboration has won Trek new fans and friends, from his extended HipHop family to heavy hitters in the rock world. The buzz is building for this superstar in the making. With almost more projects on the table than he can handle, he's on a path to become a household name. He wants the whole world to know his name is Trek Life.
