Surinder Kaur was born in Lahore (Punjab, British India) on 25 November 1929. During her early teen years, she and her older sister Parkash studied music from Inayat Hussain and Pandit Mani Parshad. She made her debut from Lahore Radio Station in 1943. The family relocated to Delhi (India) following the partition of India in 1947. Later, they moved to Bombay. She sang some songs as a playback singer for the Indian movies. She is most famous for her Punjabi folk songs, which are more than 2000. At a very young age she was married to Joginder Singh Sodhi, a University Professor. She was awarded the Sangeet Natak Academy Award, the Millennium Punjabi Singer Award, and the Padma Shri Award. She passed away on 15 June 2006 in New Jersey, USA, where she had gone for the treatment of her terminal illness. خاموش تماشائی (KhamoshTamashai)
